Kamala texts me?
Texts from Kamala, really? Well, Kamala, I busted my butt for you, I strained my finances, and I’m nearly in despair at what I’m seeing. I am also angry, at the Democratic establishment that they let it come to this. It’s not that the information wasn’t there, Bernie, Warren, AOC, Green, Schiff et al have been screaming it out for a while now. Any moderate student of American history could have pointed at the ground swells under our feet.
The State of the Union address, 1 representative, Green, stood and fought. Well, a few little signs held up politely, “this is not Normal.” Yeah, it’s not. Normal. A 250 year Republic isn’t normal, the simple existence of nations isn’t normal. They take work, they take risk. Ms. Vice President, I’m not a kid, I’ve reached my allotment of 3 score and 10. In high school I sat against a wall wearing my ROTC uniform, crying about the murders at Kent State, about my father in Vietnam, crying because I didn’t understand anything about what was happening around me anymore. I’m a 2nd generation veteran, a 30 year public servant who grew up a military brat stopping in the middle of my Little League games at retreat each night, facing the base flag with my hand over my heart. This country is as close to a religion as I have, and I’m watching it fall. I understand the system is very comfortable for much of the Democratic Party, gerrymandered into safe spots adjacent to their red cohort gerrymandered into his, money flowing in from predictable directions, yeah, we’ll get to that finance reform thing one of these days. In a conversation about it once Pelosi spoke of “good money.” Hmm, well.
Short lesson I’m sure you know; money doesn’t know good or bad. Money, like water in a river, is a universal solvent. To remain a tool its banks must be maintained, its piers must be dredged and repaired, it must be shared. It must be regulated. President Biden did beat back some of the space lost to the Neo-liberal wave President Clinton rode into the office, but Democrats have been riding this money wave damn near as much as Republicans for half a century. This is what the river looks like coming out of the banks. I love this country, I want to save it, I see at the top of my screen another email; “Trump is praying you ignore this email.” I’m sure the K-Street firm researched that at least as well as Google or Ford does to sell me shampoo. Glad my bucks went to them to send me the email, but you know, I think the bucks I’ve got left are going to the Greens, the AOCs, the Bernies that AREN’T NORMAL, not the machine that sent me the dozens of emails today insisting it’s the most important moment in life. The DNC isn’t going to convince me it’s up to this with an email subject line. It’s going to take standing next to me at the demonstration on the 14th, getting carried out of chambers at speeches, it’s going to take sacrifice and risking NOT NORMAL It’s going to take not being comfortable. Ms. Harris, we don’t live in comfortable times, and it’s sure as hell going to get less comfortable.
